Access to our infrastructure

The Swedish NMR Centre is a research infrastructure primarily for structural biology, metabolomics, chemical biology, small molecule NMR and applications in material science, but general NMR applications are also supported.

Our staff provides expert assistance in most areas of NMR, specifically NMR-based structural biology, metabolomics, chemical biology and small molecule NMR, as well as diffusion NMR, solid-state MAS and general NMR applications. We provide access to state-of-the-art NMR equipment from 500 MHz to 900 MHz. Most of our high-field NMR spectrometers are equipped with cold probes and automatic sample changers.

Request for access

Access policy

  • Academic projects have priority, industry users are accepted provided that resources are available.
  • User fees are applied; industry users pay full costs while academic projects may be subsidized.
  • Selection and project prioritizing is based upon feasibility and scientific excellence.
  • Fast-track access for limited projects is possible, i.e. projects requiring short measurements/quick assessment of easily addressable question etc.
  • Resource allocation blocks (intermittent access over a period of 6 to 12 months) can be applied for by Swedish PIs using the relevant form below

Information regarding user fees

Cancellation policy

Bookings are made in a dialog with staff. Cancellations or alterations of bookings can be made up to two working days (48 hrs) prior to the start of the booking. For cancellations or alterations made beyond this point, the user can be charged for up to maximum 2 days of spectrometer time if no other use of time becomes possible.

Access forms

Evaluation of requests

A request for access is evaluated for feasibility by the NMR Centre staff and then forwarded to the external evaluation panel. A request for access in a project already evaluated by e.g. EU, VR, Formas or KAW is automatically approved. The evaluation panel selects and prioritizes projects based on quality and scientific excellence. The decision by the evaluation panel is subsequently communicated to the applicant, and access is planned. For more extensive projects potential users will be encouraged to contact the staff to discuss viability, relevance and feasibility prior to applying.

After use of the infrastructure

Acknowledgement of the infrastructure

We request that use of the infrastructure not involving a scientific collaboration acknowledge the Swedish NMR Centre in publications where data has been used. The text "The Swedish NMR Centre at the University of Gothenburg is acknowledged for instrument access and support".

User evaluation

We are dependent on the feedback from users to improve the service provided at the Swedish NMR Centre. Therefore, we ask all users to provide an evaluation after using the infrastructure. An evaluation form is found here.
